From a world-wide standpoint, if you want the optimal standardized system, Metric is the way to go. Should everyone else in the world change because English units are used in a couple of countries? or should the United States, England, Australia and New Zealand keep spending valuable education time and money on teaching two different systems? or maybe, should we just completely isolate ourselves from the rest of the globe so that we can throw our fits about how the Metric system is no good and not worry about having to convert whenever we encounter foreign information?

All the choices above sound pretty selfish, naive and"silly".
